The Cervélo Caledonia doesn’t fit nicely into a box, and we like that about it too. It was conceived on our Thursday night rides – routes that often have little to do with “road-riding” anymore. As we tried to cradle bigger tires on our R5 and streamline our Asperos, a new breed of bike was born.

When designing a bike, we start with our library of tube shapes. These shapes are tubes that we’ve used on other models and that we know have different qualities – aerodynamic, stiff, ultra-light, etc. They help us fine-tune a bike faster. For the Caledonia, we wanted to balance durability, lightweight, and aerodynamics and chose a package that meets the performance requirements of this type of road bike.

The Caledonia uses standard round handlebars, stem, and seat posts, giving cyclists the ability to build their ultimate bike without compromise. Integrated accessory mounts and hidden fender mounts maintain the bike’s sleek lines, so you can ride with your lights and computer on in the pouring rain and still look good. Because we all know if it looks fast, it probably is.

Instead of designing multiple bike versions with different position profiles (R5, R-Series, etc.) as we have done in the past, we have developed a system that allows a wide range of positions on a single bike while maintaining the aesthetic and functional one Gets the cleanliness we demand. Modern racing cyclists are looking for bikes that can cover long distances, set a high pace, know no limits, and offer maximum fun. Using lower-modulus carbon fiber in key areas to mitigate the brittleness of high-mod fibers, the Caledonia delivers performance, comfort, and speed.
